Alchemix Finance Guide

Turn future yield into money today

Alchemix Finance is the DeFi protocol behind self-repaying loans. Deposit ETH or USDC, borrow alETH or alUSD, and understand how v3 redemptions reduce debt while yield replenishes collateral.

Alchemix v3 documentation reviewed 16 October 2026. Historical v2 limits and yield-only repayment estimates are not current v3 terms. Check live markets, yield and fees in the official app. Loan mechanics · Fees · Liquidation risks

Alchemix advantages and trade-offs

No interest payments

v3 debt does not accrue interest; redemption and yield fees still apply.

No price liquidations

Like-kind debt avoids underlying-price liquidation; MYT backing losses can still trigger it.

Collateral keeps earning

MYT earns yield that offsets collateral removed by redemptions.

Repay anytime

Accepted repayment assets depend on whether debt is earmarked.

How an Alchemix loan works

  1. 1

    Deposit

Add ETH or USDC to a supported v3 market.

  2. 2

    Earn

MYT yield replenishes collateral; it does not directly cancel debt.

  3. 3

    Borrow

Mint alUSD or alETH up to the LTV limit.

  4. 4

    Auto-repay

Scheduled redemptions use collateral to cancel matching debt.

Understanding Alchemix Finance before you borrow

What problem does Alchemix address?

Holding an asset and needing liquidity are different financial goals. Selling a holding provides cash, but removes exposure to that asset. Borrowing can retain some exposure while adding debt, costs and obligations. Alchemix Finance offers a particular approach: a deposit becomes yield-bearing MYT collateral, and a borrower receives a like-kind synthetic asset. The value of that approach depends on what you need to spend, how long you can leave collateral committed and which risks you can tolerate.

For example, someone holding ETH may want ETH-denominated liquidity rather than a dollar loan. An alETH position expresses both collateral and debt in related units, although the market value of their remaining equity still changes with ETH. Someone considering USDC collateral should separately understand stablecoin exposure and the market price of alUSD. Begin with the alUSD and alETH overview to distinguish deposit assets, debt assets and exchange proceeds.

Why the v3 distinction matters

Search results can mix several generations of Alchemix tutorials. A historical explanation may use a different borrowing limit, describe different deposit assets or imply that harvested yield directly reduces debt. The current guide follows the reviewed v3 documentation: yield increases collateral value, while scheduled redemptions remove collateral and cancel corresponding debt. That difference changes how you interpret repayment, remaining principal and withdrawal expectations.

A helpful way to read a position is to ask three separate questions: how much collateral remains, how much debt remains and how much value you can actually withdraw or receive after an exit. A falling debt balance is useful information, but does not answer the other two questions. The Alchemix protocol walkthrough connects these balances to the Alchemist, MYT and Transmuter.

Benefits need to be assessed alongside trade-offs

No growth in borrowing interest can make a loan easier to reason about, but does not make its total economic cost zero. Yield fees affect collateral earnings, redemption fees affect settlement, and swapping a synthetic asset may involve a discount and trading costs. Strategy losses can change collateral value independently of the underlying asset price. A sensible comparison considers net liquidity received and the eventual exit, rather than comparing headline rates alone.

Alchemix is therefore not automatically better than every other DeFi lending service. Its mechanics may fit a borrower seeking like-kind liquidity who understands pooled yield exposure. A different lending model may suit someone who needs a specific token immediately or does not want these redemption mechanics. Read the lending trade-off comparison before deciding which model matches your objective.

Common questions about Alchemix Finance

Does self-repaying mean I receive my entire deposit back?

No. In v3, debt cancellation can be funded from collateral. Yield may replenish some of that value, but its future amount is uncertain. Remaining collateral, fees and outstanding obligations must be considered together. The self-repaying loan guide explains why debt reduction and principal preservation are not the same outcome.

Can I use this guide as a live yield quote?

No. This is an independent educational resource, not a market feed or wallet service. Check the selected market in the official app, confirm its settings and read the documentation linked beside each explanation. A yield figure from an old article is not evidence of the return available today.

Where should a beginner start?

First understand the loan cycle, then learn how alAssets are priced and how strategy losses affect a position. Only after those concepts are clear should you review the deposit and repayment checklist. Use the security overview to plan what you will monitor after a transaction, not just before it.
